When you play Plausible, we automatically create a soft account and collect:

  • Account identifier, stored as a cookie on your device
  • Nickname, when you submit fake definitions
  • Game data, your submitted definitions, votes, scores, and ELO ratings
  • E-mail, only if you explicitly sign up for communication

Full accounts (optional)

If you create a full account, we additionally collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (encrypted)

Technical Data

Our hosting infrastructure may automatically log:

  • IP addresses, for security and operational purposes
  • Browser and device information
  • Access logs, retained according to standard hosting practices

How we use your data

We process your personal data for the following purposes:

Game functionality

  • To track your participation and voting in daily games
  • To calculate and display your performance statistics
  • To enable the ELO rating system for fair leaderboard rankings
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest (necessary to provide the game service)

Public leaderboards

  • To display your nickname and submitted fake definitions on public leaderboards
  • To show how many players your definitions have fooled
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest (core game mechanic)

Important: When you submit a fake definition, your nickname and definition become publicly visible on the leaderboard. Consider using a nickname that does not identify your person if you wish to maintain privacy. If you prefer not to appear publicly, play without submitting definitions.

Account management

  • To enable login across devices
  • To preserve your game history
  • To allow password recovery
  • Legal basis: Contract performance (providing the account service you requested)

Communication and optional emails

We may send you the following types of emails:

  • Transactional emails (strictly necessary):
    • password reset
    • account confirmation
    • security alerts
    • account deletion confirmation
Legal basis: Contract performance / legitimate interest.
  • Optional game-related emails:
    • Daily/weekly performance summaries and statistics
Legal basis: Your explicit consent. You can give or withdraw this consent at any time in your account settings. Even if you opt out, you will still receive strictly necessary transactional emails.
